We’ve all heard the news about our economy and we know jobs are getting cut left and right. The latest US Department of Labor stats show a very gloomy picture. Unemployment is at an all time high (over 7%) and is expected to increase. Companies are laying off employees every single week and the US lost over 2.8 million jobs in 2008 alone.
I’ve been a recruiter for ten years now and I’ve been getting asked over and over by fans like you what should you do in times like these? Well I searched high and low, I spoke with other recruiters in the field and I put my own ten years of experience to the test.
Here’s a two part series on how you can recession-proof your job. Part One gives you 3 tips on what you need to do to “fireproof” your job. Part Two, which comes out tomorrow, will discuss what you need to do if you do get laid off or lose your job.
I want to hear your thoughts and your experiences too. Please leave a comment on ideas on how we can survive these hard times and ways to make sure your job stays put. But, as I said before, if you find yourself without employment, it’s time to get your name and your resume out there and I will show you how.
